Lectio Divina – Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time (June 20th) – Cycle B

PURPOSE OF THIS SCRIPTURE READING – Develop a personal relationship with Jesus through the Word of God with the understanding that the Holy Spirit will teach and remind us of all Jesus said and did. Psalm 32:8 tells us, “I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk, give you counsel and watch over you.”

  1. Say the opening prayer.
  2. Read the passage slowly three times as though Jesus were talking to you.
  3. Converse with Jesus, asking questions and listening to Him.

SEXTO DIA LEE TODO EL COMENTARIO

JOB 38:1, 8-11

La lectura de hoy es un ejemplo importante de nuestro Dios como un Dios del órden. Dios se valió de la falta de conocimientos que Job tenia, acerca de como fue hecha la tierra para que funcionara en un orden natural, para revelarle que poquito sabia Job del orden moral de Dios. Si Job no entendia como trabajaba la creacion física de Dios, cómo podria entender la mente y el carácter de El?

Se nos dice en la Escritura que nos estemos quietos y que entendamos que El es Dios (Salmo 46:11). El es nuestro Dios, nuestro refugio, nuestra fuerza, nuestra fortaleza (Salmo 91) y es El nuestro modelo fundamental. Dios es el único que es el juez. No hay un modelo o criterio mayor que Dios mismo. Vemos gente en nuestra sociedad que se ríe y rechaza la autoridad de Dios y para algunos parece que ellos tienen el control absoluto de sus vidas y destinos. La Escritura nos dice que a Dios no le gusta que las cosas estén en desorden y desquiciadas (1 Corintios 14:33). Nuestro Dios es un Dios amoroso y justo y El no se volteará ni parpadeará mientras alguien esté perturbando Su orden moral. La Escritura nos dice que Dios dijo “La venganza es mia,” (Deuteronomio 32:35) y nos dice que Dios castigará a los malvados por todos sus pecados.

Estamos llamados asi como Job, a dejar a Dios tener el control de nuestras vidas. Esto no significa que nos volvamos robots. Al contrario, esto nos dá un enorme nivel de libertad. Sabremos con certeza que Dios nunca nos dejará. Nunca caminaremos por los valles de las sombras de la muerte sin su compañia. La sabiduria de Dios sera nuestra fuerza. Dios nunca nos abandonará. Nada podrá separarnos del amor de Dios, ni la enfermedad, ni la persecución, ni las pruebas, ni el divorcio ni siquiera la muerte. Nuestro Dios tiene el control de todo el universo y El nos ha escogido para ser sus hijos muy especiales. El es un Dios de órden y quiere que nosotros vivamos en armonia unos con otros y que nos amemos unos a otros asi como El nos ha amado (Juan 13:34).

 

2 CORINTIOS 5:14-17

Pablo escribe con audacia en contra de las filosofias de la vida basadas únicamente en ideas y experiencias humanas. Nos dice que los Cristianos somos personas nuevas por adentro. El Espíritu Santo da nueva vida y ya no somos los mismos. Cuando aceptamos a Cristo como Señor de nuestras vidas, la vida comienza de nuevo con un inicio de frescura. No es que seamos rehabilitados, reformados o reeducados, somos una creación nueva, viviendo en una vital union con Cristo (Colosenses 2:6, 7).

Es muy importante recordar que cuando aceptamos a Cristo como nuestro Señor y Salvador, le estamos dando permiso de residir en nosotros. Le hemos dicho que queremos habitar en El y que El habite en nosotros (Juan 15:7). No estamos nada mas dandole vuelta a una nueva hoja, estamos empezando una nueva vida bajo un nuevo patrón. Esto quiere decir que debemos obedecer Su mandato diariamente.

Podrás vivir por Cristo comprometiendo tu vida y sometiendo tu voluntad a la Suya. (Romanos 12:1,2). Podrás continuar buscando y aprendiendo de El, de Su vida y de Sus enseñanzas (Col. 3:16). Podrás reconocer el poder del Espíritu Santo dentro de ti (Hechos 1:8).

Pablo usa el ejemplo de ser enraizados o conectados con Cristo. Como las plantas obtienen su alimento de la tierra, asi nosotros sacamos nuestra fuerza, alimento y la vida misma de Cristo. Lo mas que habitemos (residimos) en Cristo, lo menos que seremos engañados por aquellos que falsamente aclaman tener las respuestas de la vida. Pablo realmente nos muestra que ser una creación nueva significa que a la vista de Dios, nuestros motivos son puros y nuestras manos estan limpias. Aun cuando continuen sospechando de nosotros aquellos que nos conocieron antes de haber comprometido nuestra vida a Cristo.

Recordemos siempre que el mensaje del hombre siempre es escuchado de acuerdo al contexto de su carácter. Pablo dice a la gente que su conducta ha sido el resultado de querer únicamente servir a Dios. Nuestra conducta no debe ser menos que la de Pablo. Mucha gente pensaba que Pablo era un lunático y lo rechazaban, le pegaban y lo encarcelaban por su conducta. A Pablo no le importaba que la gente pensara que era un tonto, pues el era un tonto por Cristo. Piensa el mundo que tu eres un tonto por Cristo debido a tu conducta?

 

MARCOS 4:35-41

El Mar de Galilea era notable por sus tormentas debido a que está a 680 pies bajo el nivel del mar y rodeado de colinas. Algunos de los discípulos eran pescadores con mucha experiencia que habian pasado sus vidas pescando en ese lago, pero en esa tormenta les dió pánico y creyeron que los iba a destruir. Jesús estaba durmiendo en la parte trasera de la barca, ahi donde se sentaban a los visitantes distinguidos, en un pequeño asiento sobre un tapete. Parecia como que si El no se daba cuenta y no se preocupaba de la tormenta.

Hacemos injusticia a este relato si lo tomamos únicamente en un sentido literal. Esta fue una tormenta física, pero las tormentas se dan tambien en otras formas. Cuando los discípulos se dieron cuenta que la presencia de Jesús estaba con ellos, la tormenta se calmó. O sea, una vez que supieron que El estaba ahi, la paz entró a sus corazones.

Piensa por un momento en las tormentas que ha habido en tu vida y en las situaciones que te causan mucha ansiedad. Nosotros tambien podemos sentir lo que los discípulos sintieron en la barca. El viaje con Jesús fue un viaje en paz aun dentro de la tormenta. Permitanme decirlo otra vez: Con la presencia de Jesus podemos tener paz aun en las mas fieras tormentas de la vida. Cualquiera que sea nuestra dificultad, tenemos dos opciones. Podemos estar afligidos y pensar que Jesús no se preocupa ya de nosotros o podemos resistir el miedo poniendo nuestra confianza en El. Cuando sintamos pánico, confesemos nuestra necesidad de Dios y recordemos que El nos dará paz en la tormenta de afliccion. El cambia la obscuridad de la muerte en el brillo del pensamiento de la vida eterna. El nos dará paz en la tempestad de la duda, de las tensiones y de la incertidumbre.

Preguntale cual es Su voluntad y ponte sumiso a élla y el camino hacia la paz aparecerá en ese momento. El nos da la paz en la tormenta de la ansiedad. El mayor enemigo de la paz es la aflicción y Jesús nos trae Su paz o sea el amor incondicional de Dios. Invita a Jesus a calmar las tormentas de tu vida y El te dejara maravillado asi como dejó maravillados a los discípulos en la barca en el Mar de Galilea.

 

Aplicación

La primera lectura nos dice que nuestro Dios es un Dios de orden. La segunda nos muestra que no somos rehabilitados, somos creaciones nuevas. El Evangelio nos revela que Jesús puede calmar cualquier tormenta en nuestras vidas.

Esta semana pídele al Señor que te revele lo que quiere que tu hagas. Sé preciso. Pídele que te guie en tu papel de hijo, esposo, padre de familia o líder. Ve a tu alrededor en tu familia, escuela o trabajo y fíjate si eres una parte de la tormenta en sus vidas. Sometete a ser guiado por Jesús y El aliviará la tormenta de tu vida.

SIXTH DAY READ ALL OF THE COMMENTARY

JOB 38:1, 8-11

Today’s reading is a powerful example of our God being a God of order. God used Job’s lack of knowledge about how the earth was made to function in a natural order to reveal to him how little Job knew of God’s moral order.  If Job did not understand the workings of God’s physical creation, how could he understand God’s mind and character?

We are told in Scripture to be still and know that he is God (Psalm 46:11). He is our God, our refuge, our strength, our fortress (Psalm 91), and he is our ultimate standard.  God is the only one who is to be the judge. There is no standard or criterion higher than God.  We see people in our society laugh and reject God’s authority, and for some, it seems like they are in complete control of their lives and destiny.  Scripture tells us that God is not one who likes things to be disorderly and upset (1 Cor. 14:33). Our God is a loving God, and a just God, and he will not turn his head or blink his eye while someone is disturbing his moral order. Scripture tells us that God says, “Vengeance is mine,” (Deut. 32:35) and it tells us that God will punish the evildoers in full for all their sins.

We are called, just like Job, to let God be the one in control of our lives. This does not mean that we become a robot. Rather, it gives us a tremendous level of freedom. We will know with certainty that God will never leave us. We will never walk alone anymore through the valley of the shadow of death.  God’s wisdom will become our strength. We will never be abandoned by God. Nothing can separate us from God’s love, not sickness, persecution, trials, divorce, or even death itself.  Our God is in control of the whole universe, and he has chosen us to be his very special children.  He is a God of order, and he wants us to live in harmony with each other and to love one another as he has loved us (John 13:34).

 

2 CORINTHIANS 5:14-17

Paul boldly writes against any philosophy of life based only on human ideas and experiences. He tells us that Christians are brand new people on the inside. The Holy Spirit gives them new life, and they are not the same anymore.  When we accept Christ as Lord of our life, life begins again with a fresh, new start. We are not reformed, rehabilitated or reeducated;  we are a new creation, living in vital union with Christ (Col. 2:6,7).

It is very important to remember that when we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are giving him permission to take up residence in us.  We have told him that we want to abide in him and he to abide in us (John 15:7).  We are not merely turning over a new leaf, we are beginning a new life under a new Master. This means we must follow his leadership on a daily basis.

You can live for Christ by committing your life and submitting your will to him (Romans 12:1,2). You can continue to seek to learn from him, his life and his teachings (Col. 3:16). You can recognize the Holy Spirit’s power within you (Acts 1:8).

Paul used the illustration of our being rooted or connected to Christ. As plants get their nourishment from the soil, so we draw our strength, nourishment, and life itself from Christ. The more we abide (reside) in Christ, the less we will be fooled by those who make false claims to life’s answers. Paul really shows us that being a new creation means that in the sight of God, our motives are pure and our hands are clean. But suspicion will still be cast on us by people who knew us before we committed our lives to Christ.

We must always remember that a man’s message will always be heard in the context of his character. Paul tells the people that his conduct has been the result of wanting only to serve God. Our conduct should not have anything less than the motive of Paul. Many people thought Paul was a lunatic and they rejected him, beat him and jailed him for his conduct. Paul was not bothered that people thought he was a fool because he was a fool for Christ. Today, does the world think of you as a fool for Christ because of your conduct?

 

MARK 4:35-41

The Sea of Galilee was notorious for its storms because it is 680 feet below sea level and surrounded by hills. Some of the disciples were veteran fishermen who had spent their lives fishing on this lake, but in this storm they panicked and the storm threatened to destroy them all.  Jesus was sleeping in the back of the boat where distinguished visitors would have been seated on a small seat placed on a carpet.  He seemed to be completely unaware and unconcerned with the storm.

We do this story a great injustice if we merely take it in a literalistic sense.  This was a physical storm, but storms come in other forms too.  When the disciples realized the presence of Jesus was with them, the storm became calm.  Once they knew he was there, fearless peace entered their hearts.

Think for a moment about the storms in your life and the situations that cause you great anxiety.  We can experience what Jesus’ disciples experienced in that boat. That voyage with Jesus was a voyage in peace even in a storm.  Let me repeat that again for you: In the presence of Jesus, we can have peace even in the wildest storms of life. Whatever our difficulties, we have two options, we can worry and think that Jesus is no longer concerned about us, or we can resist fear by putting our trust in him. When we feel like panicking, we need to confess our need for God, and then remember that he will give us peace in the storm of sorrow.  He changes the darkness of death into the sunshine of the thought of eternal life. He will give us peace in the tempest of doubt, tension, and uncertainty.

Ask his will, submit to it and the way to peace comes at such a time. He gives us peace in the storm of anxiety.  The chief enemy of peace is worry, and Jesus brings us his peace which is the unconditional love of God. Invite Jesus to calm the storms in your life and he will fill you with awe just as he filled the disciples with awe in that boat on the Sea of Galilee.

 

Application

The first reading tells us that our God is a God of order.  The second reading shows that we are not rehabilitated;  we are new creations.  The Gospel reveals that Jesus can calm any storm in our lives.

This week, ask the Lord to reveal to you what he wants you to do.  Be specific.  Ask his guidance about your role as a child, spouse, parent, or leader.  Look at the people in your family, school, or work and see whether you are part of a storm in their lives.  Submit to Jesus’ guidance, and he will heal the storm in your life.

SIXTH DAY READ ALL OF THE COMMENTARY

EZEKIEL 17:22-24

This reading is a message of hope for the people of today, as it was in the time of Ezekiel.  It shows us what happened to a nation that put its hope in a foreign alliance.  The people relied on their ability to make treaties with neighbors instead of relying on the power of God. Only God could offer them a sign of real and trusting hope. God said he would plant a tender twig, called the Messiah, whose kingdom would grow and become a shelter for all who come to him (Isaiah 11:1).

We have seen this prophecy fulfilled in the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We experience false hope when we depend on foreign alliances, like pride, power, wealth and status. The Lord was the one who took a small twig and made it into a mighty fruit-bearing tree. Our gifts and talents come not from ourselves, but from God. We need only look around in our communities to see mighty trees that have fallen, and much damage has resulted in their crashing fall.

The Lord will bring the proud and haughty crashing to the ground, and he also will exalt the lowly and the meek. There is a tendency in our societies to identify meekness with weakness. The proud depend on themselves and others like themselves and end up in disgrace and complete humiliation. The meek never forget that they are a twig made by God and their growth into a giant, fruit-bearing tree is the result of God’s tremendous gift of grace. The meek, because of their humility and obedience to the Lord, become the strongest in the kingdom of God.  Scripture tells us that the proud end in failure, but the meek become wise (Proverbs 11:2).

 

2 CORINTHIANS 5:6-10

Death is so frightening for many people because it is mysterious, unknown and final.  Yet we see in today’s reading that Paul was not afraid to die because he was confident of spending eternity with Christ.  This does not deny that facing the unknown and leaving loved ones do not bring some form of anxiety.  Leaving those whom we love hurts deeply, but if we believe in Jesus Christ, we can share Paul’s hope and confidence of eternal life with Christ.

Scripture tells us that if we believe in Christ, we shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).  For those who believe in Jesus Christ, death is not the last word.  Death is only a prelude to eternal life with God. When Christians leave the land of the dying, they enter into the land of the living. In fact, the only person who was ever born to die was Jesus Christ. His death won for us a victory over death.  Because of him, you and I can face tomorrow without fear.  Upon our physical death, our lives will continue in spirit and at the end of time in a new glorified body forever in the presence of our loving God.  It is this confident hope that inspires us to faithful service.

It is true that eternal life is a free gift, given through God’s grace (Ephesians 2:8,9). It is also true that our lives will still be judged by Christ. The gift of faith does not free us from obedience.  We must never use God’s gift as an excuse for laziness, because all Christians must give an account for how they had lived (Matthew 16:27). We must never forget that faith is the response to the living presence and power of God in our lives.  We can, like Paul, look forward to that “Day of the Lord” without any fear, because fear has to do with punishment (1 John 4:18). And we have a God of love, who died for us while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8) simply because he loved us so much.

 

MARK 4:26-34

Today’s Gospel reveals that spiritual growth is a continual, gradual process that reaches its fullness in spiritual maturity. Spiritual growth is very much like the slow, steady growth of a plant.  It is harvested when it reaches its time of fullness. Jesus’ example of the tiny mustard seed really identifies with the church. Our Catholic Church started out very small. It was not very long before it had grown into a worldwide Christian community of believers.

The tiny mustard seed is also like you and me, in that when we feel alone in our stand for Christ, we realize that God is building a worldwide kingdom through us. God has many faithful followers in every part of the world, and our faith, no matter how small, can join with others to accomplish great things.  Today our faith continues to grow through hearing his Word, and we need to proclaim his Word to all we meet, whether in our homes, work places or schools (Matt. 28:19).

Jesus spoke in parables to challenge the sincere seekers to discover the true meaning of his words.  He spoke out against hypocrisy and impure motives which were characteristic of the various members of the crowd listening to Jesus. We need to realize that only as we put God’s teachings into practice will we understand and see more of the truth. The truth is clear, but our ability to understand it is imperfect.  As we obey, we will sharpen our vision and increase our understanding (James 1:22-25).  Today, as in the days of this Gospel, those who truly listen to Jesus and obey his holy Word know what he is talking about.

 

Application

The first reading reveals that putting our hope in man rather than in God is a false hope.  The second reading shows us that belief is an action that calls for a response. We live the way we really believe.  The Gospel tells us that hypocrisy is defeated by truth.

This week, make a list of what areas in your life are a hypocrisy, and then confess that one area to a Christian brother or sister, so that he or she may pray that you will be healed (James 5:16). Pick out someone from your family, job, or school and be specific.  Remember, the prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16). The truth of Christ will really set you free from hypocrisy (John 8:32). In one week you will experience a tremendous healing.  Write to us and share how God has answered your prayer.

SEXTO DIA LEE TODO EL COMENTARIO

EZEQUIEL 17:22-24

La lectura de hoy es un mensaje de esperanza para la gente de hoy, como fue en los tiempos de Ezequiel. La lectura nos muestra lo que pasó a una nación que puso todas sus esperanzas en una alianza extranjera. Sedecias se fiaba de su habilidad para hacer alianzas con sus vecinos en lugar de atenerse al poder de Dios. Solo Dios pudo ofrecerles un signo de real y confiada esperanza. Dios dijo que El plantaria un retoño tierno, llamado Mesías, cuyo reino creceria y seria un seguro refugio para todos los que vinieran a El (Isaias 11:1).

Hemos visto esta profesia cumplida en la venida de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. Experimentamos esperanzas falsas cuando dependemos en alianzas extranjeras, asi como orgullo, poder, riquezas y posición. El Señor fue aquel que tomó un pequeño retoño y lo convirtió en un majestuoso árbol productor de fruta. Nuestros dones y talentos nos llegan, no por nosotros mismos, sino que nos vienen de Dios. Necesitamos mirar alrededor en nuestras comunidades y veremos majestuosos árboles caidos y el gran daño que han causado en su estrepitosa caida.

El Señor hará caer estrepitosamente al suelo al orgulloso y altivo y El tambien exaltará al humilde y manso. Hay tendencia en nuestra sociedad de identificar mansedumbre con debilidad. Los orgullosos dependen de ellos mismos y en otros como ellos y terminan en desgracia y completa humillación. Los mansos nunca se olvidan que ellos son una pequeña ramita hecha por Dios y su crecimiento en un árbol gigante que produce fruta es el resultado del tremendo don de la gracia de Dios. Los mansos, a causa de su humildad y obediencia a Dios, se convierten en los mas fuertes en el reino de Dios. Las escrituras nos dicen que el orgulloso termina en fracaso, pero la sabiduria convive con el humilde. (Proverbios 11:2).

 

2 CORINTIOS 5:6-10

La muerte es horrorosa para mucha gente porque es misteriosa, desconocida y final. Pero vemos en la lectura de hoy que Pablo no tenia miedo de morir porque confiaba en pasar la eternidad con Cristo. Esto no niega que enfrentar lo desconocido y dejar los seres amados no traiga alguna forma de ansiedad. Dejando aquellos que uno ama hiere profundamente, pero si creemos en Jesucristo, podemos participar en la esperanza de Pablo y la confianza de la vida eterna con Cristo.

Las Escrituras nos dicen que si nosotros creemos en Cristo, no pereceremos pero tendremos vida eterna (Juan 3:16). Para aquellos que creen en Jesucristo, la muerte no es la última palabra. La muerte es solo un preludio a la vida eterna con Dios. Los cristianos dejan la tierra mortal y entran en la tierra de los vivos cuando mueren. En efecto, la unica persona que ha nacido para morir fue Jesucristo. Su muerte ganó para nosotros la victoria sobre la muerte. Por El,tu y yo podemos enfrentar el mañana sin miedo. Al tiempo de nuestra muerte física, nuestra vida continúa en espíritu y al final de los tiempos en un nuevo cuerpo glorificado en la presencia de nuestro amoroso Dios. Es esta seguridad y confianza que nos inspira a servir fielmente.

Es verdad que la vida eterna es un regalo gratis, dado a traves de la gracia de Dios (Efesios 2:8,9). Tambien es verdad que nuestras vidas seran juzgadas por Cristo. El regalo de la fé no nos libra de la obediencia. No debemos jamas usar el regalo de Dios como excusa para la haraganeria, porque todos los cristianos deberan dar cuenta de como han vivido (Mateo 16:27). No deberemos jamas olvidar que la fé es la respuesta a la presencia viva y poder de Dios en nuestras vidas. Podemos, como Pablo, mirar hacia ese “Dia del Señor” sin miedo, porque el miedo mira hacia el castigo (1 Juan 4:18). Y nosotros tenemos un Dios de amor, que murió por nosotros mientras nosotros eramos aun pecadores (Romanos 5:8) simplemente porque El nos amó mucho.

 

MARCOS 4:26-34

El Evangelio de hoy revela que el crecimiento espiritual es un continuo y gradual proceso que alcanza su plenitud en la madurez espiritual. El crecimiento espiritual se parece mucho al lento, continuo crecimiento de una planta. Se cosecha cuando alcanza la madurez. El ejemplo de Jesús de la pequeñisima semilla de mostaza se identifica realmente con la iglesia. Nuestra Iglesia Católica comenzó muy pequeña no hace tanto y ha crecido en una mundial comunidad cristiana de creyentes.

La pequeñisima semilla de mostaza es tambien como tú y yo, en el sentido que cuando nos sentimos solos en nuestra firmeza por Cristo, nos damos cuenta que Dios está construyendo un reino mundial a traves nuestro. Dios tiene muchos seguidores fieles en cada parte del mundo, y nuestra fé, no importa cuan pequeña sea, puede unirse con otras para lograr grandes cosas. Hoy nuestra fé continua creciendo a traves de Su Palabra y necesitamos proclamarla a todos los que encontremos, sea en nuestros nuestros hogares, lugar de trabajo o escuelas (Mateo 28:19).

Jesús habló en parábolas para desafiar a los buscadores sinceros a descubrir el verdadero sentido de sus palabras. Jesús habló contra la hipocresia y los motivos impuros, los cuales eran característicos de su comunidad religiosa. Tenemos que comprender que solo poniendo las enseñanzas de Dios en práctica, entenderemos y veremos mas la verdad. La verdad es clara, pero nuestra habilidad para entender es imperfecta. Asi obedeciendo, agudizaremos nuestra vision y acrecentaremos nuestro entendimiento (Santiago 1:22-25). Hoy, como en los dias de este Evangelio, aquellos que verdaderamente escuchan a Jesús y obedecen Su Sagrada Palabra saben de lo que El está hablando.

 

Aplicación

La primera lectura revela que poner nuestra esperanza en el hombre en vez de Dios, es una esperanza falsa. La segunda lectura muestra que creer es una acción que pide respuesta. Vivimos en la manera que realmente creemos. El Evangelio nos dice que la hipocresia es derrotada por la verdad.

Esta semana, has una lista de las partes de tu vida que son una hipocresia, y luego confiésalo a un hermano o hermana cristiana, para que ellos puedan rogar por ti para que sanes. (Santiago 5:16). Escoje a alguien de tu familia, trabajo o escuela y se específico. Recuerda, la oración de un hombre justo tiene mucho poder. (Santiago 5:16). La verdad de Cristo te librará realmente de la hipocresia (Juan 8:32). En una semana experimentarás un tremendo alivio. Escríbenos y haznos participes de como Dios ha respondido a tu ruego.

Lectio Divina – Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time (June 13th) – Cycle B

PURPOSE OF THIS SCRIPTURE READING – Develop a personal relationship with Jesus through the Word of God with the understanding that the Holy Spirit will teach and remind us of all Jesus said and did. Psalm 32:8 tells us, “I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk, give you counsel and watch over you.”

  1. Say the opening prayer.
  2. Read the passage slowly three times as though Jesus were talking to you.
  3. Converse with Jesus, asking questions and listening to Him.

OPEN WITH THE FOLLOWING PRAYER:

Father, I can’t understand Your Word without Your grace, I acknowledge my weakness so Your power can reach perfection in me. Send Your Holy Spirit to remind, teach, and guide me to the Truth. May I share as soon as possible whatever You teach me. AMEN

Mark 4:26-34 – Jesus said to the crowds: “This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and through it all the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. Of its own accord the land yields fruit, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come.” He said, “To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.” With many such parables he spoke the word to them as they were able to understand it. Without parables he did not speak to them, but to his own disciples he explained everything in private.

SEXTO DIA LEE TODO EL COMENTARIO

EXODO 24:3-8

Moisés anunció todas las leyes y reglas que Dios le habia dado, a la gente reunida al pie del monte Sinaí. Este monte es uno de los mas sagrados lugares en la historia de Israel. Es la montaña donde Moisés encontró a Dios en un arbusto ardiendo y donde Este hizo Su pacto con Israel y Elias. Elias oyó a Dios “en el sonido de un suave susurro” en una cueva en el Monte Sinaí. Vemos al pueblo de Dios aprender sobre las bendiciones que se pueden obtener con la obediencia (Exodo 24:8-18), y las trágicas consecuencias de la desobediencia (Exodo 32). Moisés construyó un altar al pie de esta montaña con doce pilares alrededor de este por que eran doce las tribus de Israel. Entonces mandó a unos jóvenes a sacrificar las ofrendas. Los Israelitas compartian constantemente las comidas de los sacrificios. Una ofrenda quemada era sacrificada para Dios y luego la comida de ese sacrificio era dedicada a Dios e ingerida en una especie de cena de fraternidad.

Vemos a Moisés confirmar y sellar el pacto que Dios habia hecho con Su pueblo a traves del uso de la sangre. Como el bendito y todo poderoso juez de todos nosotros, Dios condena el pecado y lo considera digno de muerte. Vemos claramente que en el Antiquo Testamento Dios aceptó  la muerte de un animal como penitencia de un pecador. La sangre simbolizaba la muerte de un animal como substituto del pecador. Tambien la sangre simbolizaba que una vida habia sido perdonada como resultado.

Vemos en la escritura que la muerte de Jesucristo era el único camino que el hombre podia encontrar como substituto permanente ante Dios (Hebreos 9:9-10:24). La sangre que fue regada sobre el altar en la lectura de hoy nos muestra que el pecador podia volver a venir ante Dios pues algo habia muerto en su lugar. La sangre que fue esparcida sobre la gente les indicaba que su castigo por el pecado habia sido pagado. Entonces podian volver a reunirse con Dios.

Tu puedes volver a reunirte con Dios ahora mismo confesandole que eres pecador y pidiéndole que te perdone. Su sangre te ha redimido de la obscuridad. Arrepiéntete, creé en Jesús y vuélvete un hijo de la Luz.

HEBREOS 9:11-15

Pablo nos dice que El vino como un sumo sacerdote y pasó a traves de un mejor y mas perfecto santuario que no fue hecho por manos humanas. Una vez al año, en el dia de la reparación el sumo sacerdote podia entrar al Lugar Santísimo, que era la habitación mas interna del Tabernáculo. En esa pequeña habitacion estaba el Arca de la Alianza, que era un cofre que contenia las tablas de piedra originales en donde habian sido escritos los diez mandamientos. El sumo sacerdote era el único que podia entrar en ese lugar sagrado. El acceso que la gente tenia hacia Dios era unicamente a traves del sumo sacerdote quien ofrecia un sacrificio y usaba su sangre para reparar sus pecados de el mismo primero y luego los del pueblo (Hebreos 10:19).

La lectura de hoy nos muestra que el tratar de hacernos buenos a traves de reglas y normas nunca ha sido exitoso. Jesús nos muestra que solo con Su Sangre nuestras conciencias seran limpiadas y estaremos libres de pecado. Podemos entonces, vivir para servir a Dios, puesto que ya estamos libres del poder del pecado. La lectura de hoy habla claramente de que si nos sentimos culpables por que no podemos ser suficientemente buenos para Dios, nos alegremos y echemos otra mirada para ver lo que la muerte de Jesús significa para nosotros.

Es muy importante darnos cuenta que en el Antiguo Testamento la sangre de los animales sacrificados permitía que la gente fuera aceptada en una forma ceremonial. El sacrificio de la sangre de Cristo transforma nuestras vidas y nuestros corazones y nos hace limpios por adentro. Podemos vernos a nosotros mismos y ver que si nuestros corazones no cambian es muy dificil y muy poco placentero el seguir las reglas de Dios. Normalmente nos rebelariamos si nos dijeran como vivir, pero el Espíritu Santo nos da deseos nuevos y nos damos cuenta de que el servir a Dios es nuestra mayor alegria. Consideramos “el valor” en nuestro modo humano de pensar ya que solo unos cuantos lo pueden tener. El grandioso plan de redención de Dios sinembargo hace un gran contraste con el valor o lo valioso en términos humanos. El es el mas valioso de todos los tesoros y esta a la disposición de todos. Su sangre te ha hecho libre y valioso. Ejercita tu fé compartiéndola y usándola para servir a Dios.

MARCOS 14:12-16, 22-26

Todos los varones de mas de doce años eran requeridos de ir a Jerusalén. Era el tiempo de la fiesta de la Pascua. El termino “Pascua” significa la noche en que los Israelitas fueron liberados de Egipto (Exodo 12) cuando Dios pasó de largo las casas que habian marcado con sangre de cordero y matando a los hijos primogénitos en las casas que no habian sido marcadas. El dia de la Pascua era seguido por un festival de siete dias llamado la Fiesta de los Azimos. Esta fiesta recordaba la rápida huida de los Israelitas de Egipto cuando no tuvieron tiempo para que levantara la masa del pan. El pueblo tuvo que hornear el pan sin levadura. La semana entera fue llamada semana de Pascua por que seguia al dia de fiesta especial.

Jesús les dijo a Sus discípulos que fueran y prepararan la cena de Pascua en la que iban a participar. Muchas casas en ese lugar tenian cuartos en la parte de arriba y era muy comun rentar esos cuartos para el festival de la Pascua.

Esta comida que Jesús celebró en el evangelio de hoy fue el origen de la Cena del Señor, también conocida como la comunión de la Eucaristía. El compartir el cuerpo y la sangre de Jesús es celebrado en todos los servicios de adoración Católicos y en otras iglesias Cristianas el partir el pan es una parte muy importante de la adoración. En la primera cena del Señor, Jesús y Sus discípulos comieron y cantaron Salmos, leyeron las escrituras y oraron. El tomó el pan y el vino y les dió un nuevo significado como Su cuerpo y Su sangre.

Asi como la muerte de Jesús en la cruz sella un nuevo acuerdo entre Dios y la humanidad, la Pascua celebraba la liberación de la esclavitud de Egipto y la cena del Señor celebra la liberación del pecado por la muerte de Cristo. Los Cristianos Católicos creen que el pan y el vino realmente son el cuerpo físico y la sangre de Cristo. Sin embargo todos los demas Cristianos creen que Dios es una parte de la experiencia de la comunión, bendiciéndonos cuando recordamos la muerte de Cristo hasta que vuelva a venir. Todos nos volvemos un cuerpo en Cristo cuando compartimos Su cuerpo y Su sangre en el sacramento de la Santa Eucaristia.

 

Aplicación

La primera lectura revela lo sagrado del Monte Sinai para los Israelitas. La segunda lectura nos dice que nosotros somos los tabernáculos de Dios. El Evangelio nos dice que Eucaristia quiere decir unidad y dar gracias.

Esta semana comparte tu fé con alguien. Dile lo que la muerte de Jesus significa para tí y lo que significa comer en la mesa del Señor. Quizá estarás compartiendo esta revelación con alguien que tiene mucha hambre de alimento espiritual. Puede que sea alguien de tu familia, escuela o trabajo. Jesús nos llama a cada uno de nosotros a alimentar a Sus ovejas. Con Dios adelante, comparte tu fé y alimenta Sus ovejas.

Lectio Divina – Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (June 6th) – Cycle B

PURPOSE OF THIS SCRIPTURE READING – Develop a personal relationship with Jesus through the Word of God with the understanding that the Holy Spirit will teach and remind us of all Jesus said and did. Psalm 32:8 tells us, “I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk, give you counsel and watch over you.”

Mark 14:12-16, 22-26 – On the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, Jesus’ disciples said to Him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?” He sent two of His disciples and said to them, “Go into the city and a man will meet you, carrying a jar of water. Follow him. Wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, “The Teacher says, “Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’ Then he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready. SIXTH DAY READ ALL OF THE COMMENTARY

EXODUS 24:3-8

Moses announced all the laws and regulations God had given him to all the people assembled there at the foot of Mt. Sinai.

Mt. Sinai is one of the most sacred locations in Israel’s history. This is the mountain where Moses met God in a burning bush, and where he made his covenant with Israel and Elijah. Elijah heard God “in the sound of a gentle whisper” in a cave on Mt. Sinai. We see God’s people learn about the potential blessings of obedience (Ex. 24:8-18), and the tragic consequences of disobedience (Ex. 32). Moses built an altar at the foot of this mountain with twelve pillars around the altar because there were twelve tribes of Israel. He then sent some young men to sacrifice the burnt offerings and peace offerings. The Israelites very often shared a sacrificial meal together. A burnt offering was sacrificed to God, and then the meal taken from the sacrifice was dedicated to God and eaten as a type of fellowship dinner.

We see Moses confirm and seal the covenant that God has made with his people through the use of blood. As the holy and almighty judge of us all, God condemns sin and judges it worthy of death. We see very clearly that in the Old Testament, God accepted the death of an animal as an atonement for a sinner. Blood symbolized the death of an animal as being a substitute for a sinner. Blood also symbolized that a life was spared as a result.

We see in scripture that the death of Jesus Christ was the only way that man could have a permanent atonement with God (Hebrews 9:9 – 10:24). The blood that was thrown against the altar in today’s reading shows that the sinner could again come before God because some thing died in his place. The blood that was thrown on the people showed them that their penalty for sin had been paid. They then could be reunited with God.

You can be reunited with God right now by confessing to him that you are a sinner, and ask him to forgive you. His blood has already ransomed you from darkness. Repent and believe in Jesus, and become a child of the light.

 

HEBREWS 9:11-15

This reading tells us that Jesus came as a high priest and passed through a greater and more perfect sanctuary not made by human hands. Once a year, on the day of atonement, the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies, which was in the innermost room of the tabernacle. In that small room was contained the Ark of the Covenant. This was a chest that contained the original stone tablets on which the ten commandments were written. The high priest was the only one who could enter into this sacred spot. The peoples’ only access to God was through the high priest, who offered a sacrifice and used its blood to atone first for his own sins and then for the peoples’ sins (Hebrews 10:19).

Today’s reading shows us that trying to make ourselves good enough through rules and regulations has never been successful. Jesus shows us that by his blood alone our consciences are cleansed, and we are freed from death. We can now live to serve God because we are free from sin’s power. Today’s reading clearly speaks to us that if we are feeling guilty because we can not be good enough for God, then rejoice and take another look at what Jesus’ death means to us.

It is very important to realize that in the Old Testament the blood of sacrificed animals allowed the people to be ceremonially acceptable. The blood of Christ’s sacrifice transforms our lives and hearts and makes us clean on the inside. We can look at ourselves and see that if our hearts are not changed, following God’s rules is very unpleasant and difficult. We normally will rebel against being told how to live, but the Holy Spirit gives us new desires, and we find that serving God is our greatest joy. Many consider something as valuable, in our human way of thinking, because only a few can have it. God’s great plan of redemption, however, stands in sharp contrast to the human term value or valuable. He is the most valuable of all treasures, and he is available to all. His blood has made you free and valuable. Exercise your faith by sharing it and using it to serve God.

 

MARK 14:12-16, 22-26

All males over the age of 12 years were required to go to Jerusalem. This was the time of the Passover Festival. The term “Passover” means the night the Israelites were freed from Egypt (Exodus 12), when God “passed over” homes marked by the blood of a lamb while killing the first born sons in unmarked homes. The day of Passover was followed by a seven-day festival called the Feast of the Unleavened Bread. This feast recalled the Israelites quick escape from Egypt when they did not have time even to let their bread dough rise. The people had to bake the bread without any yeast. The whole week came to be called Passover week because it followed the special holiday.

Jesus told his disciples to go and prepare for the Passover meal in which they were going to participate. Many homes in the area had large upstairs rooms and the renting of these rooms for the Passover festival was quite common.

This meal that Jesus celebrated in today’s Gospel was the origin of the Lord’s Supper, or also known as the communion of the Eucharist. The sharing of Jesus’ body and blood is celebrated at every Catholic worship service, and in many other Christian churches the breaking of the bread is a major part of worship. At the first Lord’s supper, Jesus and his disciples ate a meal, sang Psalms, read scripture and prayed. He took the bread and wine and gave them new meaning as his body and blood.

Just as Jesus’ death on the cross seals a new agreement between God and mankind, the Passover celebrated deliverance from slavery in Egypt, and the Lord’s supper celebrates deliverance from sin by Christ’s death. Catholic Christians believe that the bread and wine actually become Christ’s body and blood. All Christians believe, however, that God is a part of the communion experience, blessing us as we remember Christ’s death until he comes again. We all become one body in Christ when we share his body and blood in the sacrament of Holy Eucharist.

 

Application

The first reading reveals the sacredness of Mt. Sinai to the Israelites. The second reading tells us that we are the tabernacles of God. The Gospel tells us that Eucharist means unity and thanksgiving.

This week, share your faith with someone. Tell them what Jesus’ death means to you, and what it means to eat at the Lord’s table. You may be sharing this revelation with someone who is very hungry for spiritual food. It might be someone in your family, school or work. Jesus calls each one of us to feed his lambs. Go forth and share your faith, and feed his lambs.
